The Boston Bruins are a professional ice hockey team based in Boston, Massachusetts. They compete in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference in the NHL. Founded in 1924, the Bruins are the league’s third-oldest team overall and the oldest in the United States.

The Bruins have won six Stanley Cup championships, tied for fourth-most in NHL history and tied for second-most among American NHL teams. They also hold the league’s highest active winning percentage, with an NHL-record .658. The team has appeared in the Stanley Cup Finals 11 times, winning its first championship in 1929 and most recently in 2011.

In addition to their Stanley Cups, the Bruins have won the Presidents’ Trophy three times (1989, 1990, 2014) as the team with the NHL’s best regular-season record, captured seven conference championships, and qualified for the playoffs 37 times over their 88 NHL seasons.

The Bruins joined the NHL as an expansion team in 1924 and quickly found success, winning their first Stanley Cup in 1929. After some years of struggle, the team regained dominance in the late 1970s, making the playoffs seven straight seasons and winning their second Stanley Cup during that period. Success continued into the 1990s and 2000s, with the Bruins capturing their third Stanley Cup in 2011 and consistently making the playoffs in recent seasons.

The Bruins maintain a historic rivalry with the Montreal Canadiens, one of the oldest rivalries in professional sports. The two teams have met in the Stanley Cup Finals 11 times, with Boston winning six of those series.
